Wikis create an ever present workspace for students to collaborate from anywhere they have computer and internet access.  I have actually created a wiki/blog hybrid for my students to complete their monthly book reports on.  Technically it is a wiki, although the students will be mostly just posting to it like it was a blog.  However, I can easily see wikis being used for group work, such as the final project after a book study.
