Module 2: Blogs‎ > ‎

Let's Blog - Class 3 - Blog 2

What new tools that you learned about in these classes are you likely to incorporate into your classroom or professional day to day activities? Why?

In the classroom

The first tool which I would like to use in the classroom is a blog. I really like the idea of using a blog as a means for students to share their ideas/opinions about a book or project.

All of them!  I've used a wiki already with a student of mine for writing instruction/assignments...etc. and I've also incorporated a blog into my professional website.  I plan on using the "share your screen" feature to help in collaborating with other teachers.  I would love to use the video chat with some classes but I think that would require getting others involved to be comfortable with it.

I am already working on the wiki and the blog.  Although I almost hate to admit it, I think I would love to start using ichat.  I'm a convert!

Ichats:  I think these will be a major step forward in communicating in a timely fashion with my classroom teams.  So often, a situation emerges and we rely on email.  To be able to quickly reach a colleague in another building, at a conference, etc. will enable us to make decisions based on the input of the team.

Wiki and Blogs:  I need to further explore these tools.  Keeping parents informed on the ever changing world of resources is a challenge.  Offering parents a forum to share their experiences with accessing resources will also be a step forward.  Further utilizing these tools for team collaboration will also impact our ability to more quickly respond to student situations.

Thanks for a great class.

I am hoping to incorporate blogs and chatting in my classroom this year. Although the development of these tools will be a work in progress, I think they will be great resources for me to use with both students and parents. When I finish my blog, I'd like to use it as a tool for posting homework assignments this year. In future experiences, I would love to design something like the book responses or the interactive questions that we saw in this class. Having learned about chatting in this class today, I feel very positive about using it to communicate with my colleagues. Especially with our school building being so large, this will be a great way to quickly get in touch with people while minimizing the overload that can occur with email. Anything that helps facilitate communication is something that interests me greatly. The tools we have learned about in this CEI are amazing, user-friendly, and (even) fun to use. As I look at the students in the video we watched holding up signs that say, "Engage Me," I am happy to know that I have some tools to promote the growth of our 21st Century Learners!

What I Will Use

I would love to use iChat in order to communicate with other staff members. It would be great to cut down emails.

I am more likely to start a Wiki than a blog at this point based on how I have designed my current website. I would prefer it be a student site. I can also definitely see a Wiki for staff to staff beyond our Central School Sharing Site. I'd like to consider it for a team site.

what I learned

I have learned so much about wikis and blogs that I have already started to implement into my classroom.  I have also learned about constructive ways to use social networking in a professional capacity that can help me grow as a teacher and stay on top of what the kids are doing!  Thank you ladies so much for all of your help and knowledge!

So much to learn!

The possibilities are endless!  I learned so much, but know I just scratched the surface.  Now the implementation.  I plan to design a blog for my students to put on my website.  I will set up a wiki with kids from Thailand.  And the idea of a 2nd grade team wiki is interesting.  I need some time to digest all of the possibilities and of course time to implement.  Thanks Barbara and Debby for a jam packed, interesting class!

I will most likely use the blogging and wiki aspects the most.  I do like the ichat, and I'm certain that this will become the norm within the district at some point in time.  I plan on using wiki for my Peaceful Playground items and some DA items.  I'm thinking about creating new wiki's for Central Activity Day.  Using this format to get all the info out to the parents about their responsibilities for that day and for the teachers so they know what, when, where, etc. for the day!

I've already incorporated a blog to my webpage for parents to be updated without sending or emailing newsletters.  I'm hoping our Language Department will be able to create some sort of wiki that will keep us collaborating and sharing information easily without having to send out millions of emails.  I already had Delicious set up but had never used it.. now I can.  And I'm hoping all my Spanish buddies will accept me as a buddy on iChat so I can bother them ALL DAY LONG.
